In a failed effort to escape a traffic stop, a teen driver sped away from Kalamazoo police, sparking a two-minute pursuit that ended with a light pole collision.

KALAMAZOO, MI – A 14-year-old male was arrested after leading police on a two-minute pursuit through Kalamazoo neighborhoods in a stolen vehicle, officials said.

A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer identified a stolen 2007 Mercury Milan near Drake Road and West Michigan Avenue at 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 6.

The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. He led officers on a pursuit on Driftwood Avenue and Arboretum Parkway. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a light pole on Arboretum Parkway, sending the vehicle off the road.

The juvenile attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by KDPS officers.
